What to Expect

Going to meet a lawyer, accountant, financial advisor, or other professional for the first time should not be an unpleasant event.  It is for this reason that I go out of my way to try and make your experience with me a positive one.  I believe that relationships are very important and that you should be comfortable with me and my services.

Also, before you engage my services to assist you, I feel that it is important that we have a clear discussion to avoid any potential misunderstandings.  In my experience, it is only when we communicate with each other in an open manner that we can begin to get to know and trust each other.  This is where the real relationship begins for an effective working relationship.

For me, that means providing you with information like the range of fees that I charge, the areas I have expertise in and my preferred areas of practice, my relevant experience and qualifications, the types of clients that I work with, and how I can and can't help you.

From you, I will be seeking information like the type of help, assistance or services that you want from me, your level of knowledge related to the issues that you need help with, the amount and type of work on a file that you may want to do yourself or have done by someone other than me, your past experience with other lawyers, accountants and professionals, and your expectations of me.

Because I practice both as a Lawyer and a Chartered Professional Accountant, it is important that the terms and scope of my engagement with you be very clearly defined in writing.  This has to be done to eliminate any ambiguity or uncertainty that might otherwise exist as to when I am acting as your lawyer and when I am acting as your accountant.  Engagement letters signed by both of us serve to provide this written clarity.

Of course, after you decide to engage me to assist you as your lawyer and/or accountant, I will use my unique experience and education to work hard towards understanding your specific needs and assisting you as we mutually agree.  You can rest assured that in performing my services I will abide by the applicable rules and codes of professional conduct of the Law Society of Manitoba and/or the Chartered Professional Accountants of Manitoba.

In short, while helping you achieve your goals, I will act with integrity and objectivity, and I will constantly strive to provide you with superior customer service.  My goal is to become your trusted professional advisor!
